Define Hardware and Software and Explain various types of software with examples?

HARDWARE: - 

The mechanical devices that make the computer are called hardware (or) the physical parts of the computer are called hardware. The hardware is any part of the computer that can be seen as well as touch. 

Computer hardware consists of interconnected electronic devices that you can use to control the computer operations. 

Example: - Key board, Mouse, Monitor, Printer, Scanner etc

SOFTWARE: - 

A set of instructions that tell the computer what to do and how to do a particular task is called program.

1) A set of programs designed to achieve a task is called soft ware. 

2) A collection of programs designed to achieve a task is called a soft ware. 

3) Some programs are exists in primary memory of the computer used to help and perform tasks and manage its resources. Other type of programs exists for the user enable him to perform tasks such as creating, saving and editing the documents. 

The software’s are classified into 3 categories. 

1. System software 

2. Application software 

3. Developments software

1.SYSTEM SOFTWARE: -

1. This category includes the software that are used to define functioning of any computer.

2. System software is any program that control computer hardware. 

The system software is designed to operate the computer.

Example: Editor.

There are 3 basic types of system software. 

i) Operating System:-

An operating system tells the computer how to use its own components:-

Example: Windows, Linux……………….

The operating system is essential for any computer because it acts as an interface between the computer, hardware and the user. 

ii) Networking Operating System:- 

Network operating system allows the computer to communicate and share across the network. 

iii) Utility:- 

Utility is a program that makes the computer to use or perform highly specialized functions. Utility software’s are used to manage disks and perform other tasks that the operating system itself may not be able to do. 

2. APPLICATION SOFTWARE:-

1. In order to use the computer for the specific task, if needs to be instructed. Accordingly such instructions are provided by application soft ware. 

2. Application software tells the computer how to accomplish specific tasks such as word processing drawing etc……..

3. thousands of applications are available for many purpose some of the major categories are :-

Word processing software for creating text based documents, spread sheets for creating numeric based documents. 

3. DEVELOPMENT SOFTWARE:-

Computer professionals develop the software according to the requirements of the user by using any computer language. 

The development software can be divided into two types. 

i) Customized software 

ii) Ready made software
