Everything saved on your computer is
stored a file. We can store the file and in a folder and intern store that
folder inside another folder using different folders helps you, the computer
keeps track of information your computer store files in folders. For example,
all the files the computer uses to run windows XP are usually stored in a
folder called windows when the computer needs one of the file it follows a path
to the folder and then to the file.
Files and folders are stored on drives
each drive is assigned a letter name. Each drive is also known as c:\ drive. If
you have a floppy disk drive, it is usually known as a:\ drive. If you use
files stored on a CD ROM, drive where you put the CD is assigned to another
letter.
Windows gives you two file management
options My Computer and Explorer.
My computer: - Double click on my computer to open
it the first window you see displays your friends double click on a drive to
see the files and folders stored on it. And double click on the folder and
files to open them.
Explorer: You can get windows explorer by going
through the short menu, selecting accessories from the programs menu and then
click on window explorer. The only difference between these two is that the
explorer window appears by default with two panes folders on the left and their
contents on the right left pane displays my documents, my computers and network
places icons to work with drives and folders you must click on my computer
icon. Its content then becomes visible in the right plane.
The contents of folder are displayed

Single click on its icon or double click on its icon the left pane often
displays a plus (+) sign next to an icon clicking on the plus (+) reveals other
folders nested inside with the folder hierarchy displayed the icon now has a
minus (-) sign beside it to collapse the folder again, click on the minus (-)
