The responsibilities of information
system :
|
1. A service function : to provide end users with active data
management support.
|
2. A
production function :
to provide end users with specific solutions for their information needs
through integrated application (or) (management information system)
|
Application development :It gathering data base requirements
& logical data base design where as the data base operations are used to
implementing , monitoring & controlling the DBMS operations.
|
Today data base
applications are grew & data management become an increasingly complex
job.
|
The person responsible
for the control of centralized & shared data base became known as the
data base administrator (DBA).
|
The size & role of
the DBA function varies from company to company.
|
The DBA function rules
might be defines as either a staff or line position. The DBA function in a
line position has both the responsibility & the authority to plan, define,
implement and enforce the polices, standards & procedures used in the
data administration activity.
|
DBA
activities :
|
1. Data base planning including the
definition of Standards , procedures & Enforcement of polices.
|
2. Data base requirements gathering
and conceptual design.
|
3. Data base logical &
transaction design.
|
4. Data base physical design &
implementation.
|
5. Data base testing &
debugging.
|
6. Data base operations & maintenance
, including installation, conversion & migration.
|
7. Data base training & support.
|
There may also be a
variety of micro computer DBMSS installed in the different departments.
|
In such cases the company
might have one DBA assigned for each DBMS.
|
The general coordinator
for all DBAs is some times known as the systems administrator.
|
The data administrator (DA)
also known as information resource manager (IRM).
|
Usually contains higher
degree of responsibility & authority than the DBA.
|
The DA is responsible for
controlling the overall corporate data resources both computerized and
manual.
|
DBA report to the DA (or)
IRM (or) company’s CEO.
