Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is a PSU (Public Sector Undertaking), wholly owned by Government of India and is one of the largest steel makers in India. The steel sector was to propel the economic growth. Hindustan Steel Private Limited was set up on January 19, 1954.

Steel Authority of India Limited, Central Marketing Organisation will hold All India Open Examination for recruitment to the post of Junior Assistant (Trainee). The selection process will comprise of Written test followed by Computer Skill, Computer Typing Test and Interview.

SAIL will not undertake detailed scrutiny of applications for eligibility and other aspects at the time of written examination, and therefore, the candidature is accepted only provisionally. The candidates are advised to go through the eligibility criteria and satisfy themselves that they are eligible for the concerned posts, before applying. Copies of supporting documents will be sought only from those candidates who are declared successful in the written test. When scrutiny is undertaken, if any claim made in the application is not found substantiated, the candidature will be cancelled and SAIL's decision will be final.

Selected candidates will be initially recruited as Jr. Assistant (Trainee) and will be on training for a period of two years. During the first year, they will receive a consolidated pay of Rs. 10700/- per month. In the second year, the consolidated pay will be Rs. 12200/- per month. During the period of training, Medical facility for self, spouse and dependent children; Leave etc will be as per the Rules of the Company. Upon successful completion of training of 2 years, they will be placed in S-3 grade / Rs. 9160 - 3% - 13150 with a minimum basic pay of Rs. 9,160/- along with industrial DA, PF, Gratuity, LTC etc as per rules of the Company. In addition, House Rent Allowance will be paid only where Company accommodation is not available. Upon successful completion of the probation period of 1 year after the training period, they will be confirmed in the post.

SAIL Exam Eligibility

  • Graduation (full time degree course) in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 55% marks (45% for SC / ST / PWD Candidates)
  • Diploma in Computer Application of minimum 1 year duration with proficiency in MS Office Package
  • Minimum Typing speed on PC of 40 w.p.m. and 30 w.p.m. in English for General category and Reserved category respectively.
  • Not less than 18 years and not more than 28 years as on 01.11.2013
  • Upper age limit of 28 years is relaxable by
    • 5 years for SC / ST
    • 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)
    • 10 years for PWD
    • To the extent of Military service (minimum 6 months continuous service) + 3 years for ESM
    • 5 years for those domiciled in the State of J&K from 1/1/1980 to 31/12/1989
  • The date of birth as recorded in Matriculation / Secondary Examination Certificate only will be accepted for determining the age eligibility.

SAIL Exam Pattern

Stage I - Written Test (Multiple Choice Questions) on General Awareness, English, Quantitative Aptitude & Reasoning

Stage II - (for candidates short listed after the Written Test)
  1. Computer Skill Test on MS Office Package
  2. Computer Typing Test on PC (in English) at speed of 40 w.p.m. and 30 w.p.m. for General category and Reserved category respectively and
  3. Interview

Eligible and interested candidates would be required to apply online only through SAIL's website: www.sail.co.in. No other means / mode of application shall be accepted.

Before applying on the website the candidates should possess the following:
  • Valid e-mail ID, which should remain valid for at least one year.
  • Pay in Slip for RUPEES TWO HUNDRED FIFTY ONLY (Rs. 250/-) for General / OBC candidates and RUPEES FIFTY ONLY (Rs. 50/-) for SC / ST / PWD Candidates. Please note that an amount of RUPEES TWENTY (Rs. 20/-) as Bank Charges will need to be paid by all categories of candidates to the collecting branch of SBI in addition to the applicable fee. Pay-in-Slip is to be downloaded from the website after filling in the required details.
  • Candidates should have latest scanned passport size photograph as well as scanned image of signature in digital format (.jpg or jpeg file only, of less than 500 kb size) for uploading with the application form.

MODE OF PAYMENT OF APPLICATION FEE / PROCESSING CHARGES :

State Bank of India has been authorized to collect the application fee / processing charges in a specially opened account (No. 32036360352) in SBI, CAG Branch, Kolkata, on behalf of SAIL. Candidate has to approach the nearby State Bank of India branch with a printout of the "pay-in-slip" which is available on the Application Registration Portal.

The Pay-in-Slip printed from the portal only should be used for depositing the fee for proper crediting of amount in the allocated account. On receipt of the money, the concerned branch of SBI will issue a unique Journal Number and a Branch Code of the branch collecting the money. This Journal Number and the Branch Code are to be filled up by the candidate during online registration. There will not be any other mode of collection of examination fee.

Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. Candidates are therefore requested to verify their eligibility before paying the fee.

Candidates should retain a photocopy of their Pay in Slip and Registration Slip as they can be asked to produce them for reference.

IMPORTANT:
  1. All correspondence with candidates shall be done through e-mail only.
  2. All information regarding examination schedule / admit card / interview call letters etc. shall be provided through email / uploading on SAIL website. Responsibility of receiving, downloading and printing of admit card / interview call / any other information shall be of the candidate. SAIL will not be responsible for any loss of email sent, due to invalid / wrong email ID provided by the candidate or for delay / non receipt of information if a candidate fails to access his / her mail / website in time.
  3. Candidates are not required to send any document to SAIL. The candidates will be allowed to appear in the Written Test only if they possess the valid Photo Admit Card which will be available for downloading from the SAIL website. The date of written test will be mentioned in the admit card.
